We will reshape and rebuild the north slope of our garden. If you live in the neighbourhood, come out and join the garden and help us on this exciting project.
The north side of the garden is a sloped area where gardeners grew fruit trees and native plants. From 2019-2022, due to the encroachment of nearby construction, the planted slope was effectively destroyed.
After a year’s hard work by our garden volunteers, we have managed to replant a few things.
In the fall of 2023, we engaged with a team of graduate students from the UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) to redesign the north slope for appropriate soil retention and better gardening conditions.
The SALA team came up with an impressive design, with the slope structured into two halves:
West half: terraced using cinder blocks with a seating area
East half: half-moon wattles for native plants, pollinator garden, berry bushes, and rain garden
